Updating VAT in Sage Evolution

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Open the Tax Types Setup

  1. Open Sage Evolution and select the company to log in as Admin.
  2. On the main menu, navigate to Administration → Tax → Tax Types.
  3. You will see a list such as:
    1. Input VAT (Purchases)
    2. Output VAT (Sales)
    3. Zero-rated
    4. No VAT, etc.

Step 2: Select the Tax Type to Update

  1. Double-click the tax type you want to modify. Example: Output VAT @ 15%.
  2. The Tax Type details window will open.

Step 3: Update the Tax Rate

Inside the Tax Type window:
  1. Find the Tax Rate (%) field and change the value to the new rate (e.g. 15 → 15.5).
  2. Confirm the Tax Code and Description.
  3. Click Save.

Step 4: Update All Relevant Tax Types

Repeat the process for Common Tax Types to update:
  1. Output VAT
  2. Input VAT
  3. Capital Goods VAT
  4. Mixed Supplies VAT
  5. Any custom tax types your company uses
Do not edit zero-rated or exempt codes unless the law has changed.

Step 5: Update Inventory Default Tax Types (If Needed)

If inventory items carry tax codes:
  1. Go to Inventory → Maintenance → Inventory Items
  2. Open an item
  3. Check the Tax Type in the Financial section
  4. Update if required
To update multiple items at once:
  1. Use Bulk Inventory Update or SQL Update (if allowed)
  2. Select all the data you wish to import and confirm the import.

Step 6: Update Customer & Supplier Default Tax Types

  1. Go to Maintenance → Customers → Accounts.
  2. Open a customer and go to the Financial tab.
  3. Confirm the Tax Type and change if needed.
  4. Create a test invoice to confirm tax rate update.
