Updating VAT in Cin7 Core

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Go to Tax Settings

  1. Log in to Cin7 Core with your Admin credentials.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Financial Settings → Tax Rules. This is where all tax rules are created and managed.

Step 2: Create a New Tax Rule

Default tax rules cannot be edited, so you must create a new one.
  1. Click "+ Add Tax Rule".
  2. Enter the following:
    1. The Tax Name (e.g. VAT 16%).
    2. Tax % Rate with the new tax rate (e.g. 16.00).
    3. The Tax Type, where you select the appropriate category (Sales, Purchases, or Both).
  3. Click Save.
The new tax rule will now appear in your list.

Step 3: Assign the New Tax Rule to Products

Cin7 Core uses tax rules at the product level, so you must update them.

Option A: Update Individually

  1. Go to Inventory → Products.
  2. Open a product.
  3. Under the Purchase and Sale sections, update the:
    1. Purchase Tax Rule
    2. Sale Tax Rule
  4. Click Save to apply changes.
  1. Go to Inventory → Products.
  2. Click Import/Export → Export Products. This will produce a CSV file for you to edit.
  3. Open the CSV file and update the CSV columns:
    1. SaleTaxRule
    2. PurchaseTaxRule
  4. Import the updated file back into Cin7 Core using the Import option.

Step 4: Update Customer & Supplier Default Tax Rules

  1. Go to Sales → Customers.
  2. Open a customer.
  3. Under Financial details, change the default Sale Tax Rule.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Do the same for Suppliers by updating the Purchase Tax Rule under Financial details.

Step 5: Update Any Active Documents

  1. Existing open documents still use old tax rules:
  2. Check and update tax rules in:
    1. Sales Orders
    2. Quotes
    3. Purchase Orders
    4. Invoice
    5. Credit Notes
  3. For each line item, select the new tax rule.

Step 6: Check Accounting Integration

  1. If you sync to Xero or QuickBooks Online:
    1. Go to Integrations → Xero/QBO.
    2. Ensure the new tax rule is mapped correctly on that integration.
Cin7 Core will try to map automatically but confirm manually.
